Before your death

The truth that we are aware of
Life that we know shall come to an end
Nothing in hands we shall have then
Deeds they say shall speak there-on

Sad it is that we still pay no heed
We sure were told what we must read
But still we just pile up more weed
We don’t realize, it is our need

There shall come an hour verily we were told
To prepare for it and ourselves to mould
To stand before the Master of the world
For it is Him alone we can hope to hold

Another chance we shall not get
To live again in this world He shall not let
Make haste and pray for what you fret
Before your death and you are met

your poem reminds me of Thomas Gray's Elegy written in country churchyard

The boast of Heraldry, the Pomp of Power
And all that Beauty , all the wealth ever gave
Awaits alike the inevitable hour
the paths of glory lead but to the grave

Death is a very unsettling word , people generally dont want to talk about it. most of the hip crowd believes in living the current moment to the 'fullest' rather than worrying about future or the past.
May be death is just a milestone, just like crossing childhood to be adults and from adulthood to old age. Only difference is that while crossing these milestones in life you dont have to leave any thing thats dear to you and you have idea of what it means to cross these stages of life, but that is not the case with death , we do not know what dying is like , the body is left behind and 'no one returns to tell abt what it is like'.
There is a saying by the Prophet to 'die before you die' ... some people take it too literally like the radicals who - while boasting about being the only righteous ones and the only ones who know the right path - forget to walk on it.

Sufis have an interesting perspective of this saying.. they believe in annihiliation of the self (fanaa) , and any thing that is created in themselves so that what remains is what they term as 'Uncreated' and Truth.

Oh .. i typed in quite a big comment .. :)
